African Monarch Lodges: Nambwa Tented Lodge, Kazile Island Lodge and Nambwa Lagoon Camp

Thank you for your continued support of our African Monarch Lodges. We are pleased to announce that we will not be increasing our rates for 2022!

Nambwa Tented Lodge, Kazile Island Lodge and Nambwa Lagoon Camp are still the only lodges situated inside the Bwabwata National Park,  located in the heart of KAZA, Zambezi Region, Namibia, which forms part of Africa’s Largest Conservation Area.

Dusty and Tinolla, along with the African Monarch Lodges team have embarked on the establishment of a community based project where we recycle and repurpose  all our waste items into skilfully crafted artefacts by community members whom we have trained.

The Sijwa Project visit is one of the many activities your guests could partake in during their stay with us.  It creates an opportunity for your guests to encounter and engage with our local community while they go about their daily activities. The Sijwa project consists of an organic greenhouse based on strict permaculture principles where nutrient rich vegetables, fruit and herbs are grown to grace the menus carefully prepared by our lodge Chefs, worm farms, a chicken farm for fresh organic eggs, indigenous tree nursery to offset carbon footprints and a cultural village where the traditional ways of this fascinating community is portrayed.

During Covid, in October 2020, we established the Sewing Workshop as well as our Glass Recycling Workshop, employing a further 8 community members.  They received professional artisan skills training and are producing the most beautiful pieces.  All our workshops are built with recycled plastic mineral water bottles keeping in line with our commitment to repurpose waste.

The Sijwa Project, by African Monarch Lodges will be home to our Junior Ranger School, where we plan to train 10 adult community members to be the facilitators of this program.  We plan to train approximately 180 pupils per year and hope to instil in some of them a desire to become a Field Guide once they leave school.  It is therefore an exciting year for us and we look forward to welcoming your guests in the near future to our Sijwa Project where we give back to the land and our community.

We look forward to being of service and hosting all esteemed guests at Nambwa Tented Lodge or Kazile Island Lodge in the near future.

Until then, do stay safe and healthy.

News from Strand Hotel

Activity at the Strand Hotel

To all our valued guests,

During the past year of 2021, many challenges were experienced as we traded. The Covid 19 Pandemic continued to present restrictive measures to us. The month of June and July onwards experienced domestic travel restrictions and curfews and restrictions to restaurant trading. Despite all these obstacles, we have remained resilient as your hosts and our teams were innovative in many ways.

We continued to engage all our guests, whether domestic, regional, or international, as we remained open to doing business. Some of them have said the following of us. “Popular hotel, along the beach with three different restaurants. Very amazing views too.

We ate at the Ocean Cellar restaurant, serving only sushi and other fish dishes. It's an awesome place to unwind, with an equally amazing view of the popular beach. It's a must when visiting Swakopmund”

“The hotel has awesome staff, wonderful people, exceptional food and good live music. Strand hotel is top notch. I’m definitely coming back and bringing my family with me the next time I come by the hotel.”

Zambia: African Bush Camps' new Lolebezi Camp

2022 will herald the opening of African Bush Camps' 17th camp and 2nd in Zambia!

We are very excited to announce the opening of Lolebezi in June 2022. Set in the remote eastern region of the Lower Zambezi National Park, this elegantly designed camp offers 4 Signature Suites and 2 Family Suites. It will be the first of our signature plus camps to join the African Bush Camps Portfolio.

By far our most luxurious and modern-looking camp, Lolebezi will offer the perfect setting to explore 5 hectares of unspoiled protected wilderness on the northern banks of the Zambezi River. Set in an area of Acacia Forest renowned for leopard encounters, it is an exciting place to explore.

A WILD, REMOTE & LUXURIOUS EXPERIENCE ON THE MIGHTY ZAMBEZI RIVER.

Set in the breath-taking, untouched wilds of the Lower Zambezi National Park in Zambia, Lolebezi is the latest property in the African Bush Camps family and will undoubtably be one of the most spectacular.

Set on five hectares of protected wilderness, the lodge has been designed to make the most of the one kilometre of private river frontage. Waking up with the majestic Zambezi River flowing just in front of your room is a truly exceptional experience!

The Lower Zambezi is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has some of the best wildlife sightings in the world. Famous for its leopard population and elephant herds, this amazing destination is best experienced on foot with one of African Bush Camps’ experienced guides. Walking through the towering acacia forests, searching for Africa’s famous wildlife is simply one of life’s unbeatable adventures.

The contemporary lodge effortlessly incorporates the luxury expected in a world-class safari camp with a modest elegance and simplicity that can only be found in the African bush. Designed for both family and romantic escapes, Lolebezi has four superior suites and two double family units. The lodge is fully airconditioned, with a private Plunge pool and thatched Sala on the river.

The name Lolobezi is derived from a combination of the owners’ son’s name “Lole” and “Zambezi”, underlining the importance that is placed on family and the amazing experiences waiting to be shared.

Each suite has a private plunge pool, perfect for whiling away the hot African afternoons, G&T in hand, watching the great river flow slowly past. For those looking for even more relaxation, there is an on-site spa with qualified treatment specialists, and a yoga deck.

Activities include game drives, walking safaris, river cruises, fishing, and so, so much more!

For the eco-conscious traveller, Lolebezi is ideal. Sustainability has been embedded into its design and the lodge is powered by off-grid solar energy. Staying at Lolebezi will have a profound effect on all who visit and is setting new standards for luxury safari travel in Africa.

Namibia: Ongava: Compliments of the Season!

Ongava message:

Onwards!

The story of human progress is truly heroic. It is glorious. It is uplifting. It is even, I daresay, spiritual. It goes something like this.

YouTube Little Ongava video:

We are born into a pitiless universe, facing steep odds against life-enabling order and in constant jeopardy of falling apart.

We were shaped by a force that is ruthlessly competitive. We are made from crooked timber, vulnerable to illusions, self-centeredness, and at times astounding stupidity.

Yet human nature has also been blessed with resources that open a space for a kind of redemption. We are endowed with the power to combine ideas recursively, to have thoughts about our thoughts. We have an instinct for language, allowing us to share the fruits of our experience and ingenuity. We are deepened with the capacity for sympathy - for pity, imagination, compassion, commiseration.

These endowments have found ways to magnify their own power. The scope of language has been augmented by the written, printed, and electronic word. Our circle of sympathy has been expanded by history, journalism, and the narrative arts. And our puny rational faculties have been multiplied by the norms and institutions of reason: intellectual curiosity, open debate, skepticism of authority and dogma, and the burden of proof to verify ideas by confronting them against reality. As the spiral of recursive improvement gathers momentum, we eke out victories against the forces that grind us down, not least the darker parts of our own nature. We penetrate the mysteries of the cosmos, including life and mind. We live longer, suffer less, learn more, get smarter, and enjoy more small pleasures and rich experiences.

Fewer of us are killed, assaulted, enslaved, oppressed, or exploited by the others. From a few oases, the territories with peace and prosperity are growing, and could someday encompass the globe. Much suffering remains, and tremendous peril. But ideas on how to reduce them have been voiced, and an infinite number of others are yet to be conceived. We will never have a perfect world, and it would be dangerous to seek one. But there is no limit to the betterments we can attain if we continue to apply knowledge to enhance human flourishing. This heroic story is not just another myth. Myths are fictions, but this one is true - true to the best of our knowledge, which is the only truth we can have.

We believe it because we have reasons to believe it. As we learn more, we can show which parts of the story continue to be true, and which ones false - as any of them might be, and any could become. And the story belongs not to any tribe but to all of humanity - to any sentient creature with the power of reason and the urge to persist in its being. For it requires only the convictions that life is better than death, health is better than sickness, abundance is better than want, freedom is better than coercion, happiness is better than suffering, and knowledge is better than superstition and ignorance - Steven Pinker.

Compliments of the Season!

Wishing you health and success for 2022
