Namibia will vote in Africa’s first electronic ballot tomorrow, a general and presidential election that will usher in quotas to put more women in government. Namibians will choose 72 members of the national assembly and one of nine presidential candidates, ranging from the left-wing Economic Freedom Fighters to the white minority Republican Party.
About 1.2-million Namibians are eligible to cast their ballots at nearly 4,000 electronic voting stations across this vast desert nation. The presidential candidate of Namibia's ruling SWAPO party in the parliamentary and presidential elections is Prime Minister Hage Geingob, who campaigned for independence decades ago at the United Nations. If elected, he would succeed President Hifikepunye Pohamba, who is stepping down after serving two five-year terms.

Zambia and Zimbabwe launch UNIVISA

Zambia and Zimbabwe will launch the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA) UNIVISA on Friday, 28 November 2014.

The KAZA UNIVISA is a common tourist visa for the SADC region which shall be piloted by Zambia and Zimbabwe for six months, after which the UNIVISA will be rolled out to Angola, Botswana and Namibia.  More countries in the SADC region are expected to join in the UNIVISA initiative at a later stage.

During the launch event on Friday the Victoria Falls/Livingstone border crossing shall be closed from 06h00 to 14h30, after which the UNIVISA will be effective immediately and will be administered at only eight ports of entry as follows:

Zambia:
°    Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (Lusaka)
°    Harry Mwaanga International Airport (Livingstone)
°    Victoria Falls Land Border (Border with Zimbabwe)
°    Kazangula Land Border (Border with Botswana)
Zimbabwe:
°    Harare International Airport
°    Victoria Falls International Airport
°    Victoria Falls Land Border (Border with Zambia)
°    Kazangula Land Border (Border with Botswana)
The UNIVISA costs US$50 and will be valid for 30 days, as long as guests remain within Zambia and Zimbabwe. It also covers Botswana day trips through the Kazangula Border, but not overnight stays. The visa is for holiday purposes only. Please note that where credit card point of sale facilities is not available at port of entry it is recommended that clients have US$50 available in cash for payment.

Citizens from the following 40 countries shall be eligible for the KAZA UNIVISA:

Namibia: Long Beach: removal of mobile homes | Лонг Бич Намибия

Mobile homes' owners in Long Beach (Langstrand), who had been notified to have them removed by the end of October, and have not done so yet, now have to remove their property before the end of November. They are responsible to remove homes at own cost - otherwise Council will remove the units and charge the owners accordingly. That was the message from council.
On a question to the council when the braai area and playground will be restored or fixed, the responsible individual at the Municipality informed that all recreational facilities will eventually shift to Dolphin Park Resort.

Namibia: NWR welcomes Turkish tour operators | Турецкие туроператоры в Намибии

Government-owned Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) along with the Turkish Embassy have recently decided to embark on an initiative to invite Turkish tour operators for a familiarisation visit. The tour operators arrived in Namibia this week.

Over the past few months the Turkish Ambassador, Deniz Çakar, engaged with NWR, Namibia Tourism Board (NTB), TURSAB, Air Namibia and the Turkish Airlines with the idea of bringing a delegation of tour operators to Namibia. After months of negotiations, it was finally agreed that nine tour operators along with a famous documentary film director would travel to Namibia and visit some of NWR establishments in order to create awareness of Namibia as a holiday destination for Turkish tourists.

The tour operators will travel to Waterberg Park, Okaukuejo, Namutoni and Onkoshi camps of Etosha.

Namibia: opening of Khorixas cultural centre | Открытие культурного центра в Кхорихасе Намибия

Cultural centre opens in Kunene Region

The Namibian Coast Conservation and Management Project (NACOMA) handed over the Khorixas Cultural Heritage and Interpretive Centre to the Kunene regional council last week.
The Kunene inhabitants have little access to their 500 kilometre long coastline due to limited access to the Skeleton Coast - an ecosystem of biological importance. A huge number of the inhabitants therefore have limited exposure and knowledge about their coastline.

The new centre was identified under the Kunene regional council's Regional Development Plan of 2001- 2006 and aims to develop an indoor coastal environment and cultural heritage interpretative display for the Kunene inhabitants to educate and expose them to their coastal environment while creating a sustainable business platform for local entrepreneurs, mostly small and medium enterprises (SMEs) specialising in craft.

It will also facilitate cultural performances and conduct regular dialogue towards the preservation of cultural aspects of traditional communities in and around Khorixas.
