Namibia: Hardap Resort reopening

The Hardap Recreational Resort, closed for renovations more than four years ago, is going to open for tourists by the end of 2015.

Hardap Resort, located 15 kilometres north-west of Mariental, offers bungalows and camping sites on the rim of the Hardap Dam - renowned for various water sport activities: boating, canoeing and fishing.

The resort is also home to more than 280 bird species including the great white pelican, yellow-billed stork, osprey, Bradfield's swift and Stark's lark.

According to NWR, despite some minor delays, the project was progressing well and resort will be opened this year.

Renovations, which cost about N$40 million, include work on the restaurant, swimming pool and five VIP bungalows. A new conference centre was constructed while the kitchen was rebuilt.

BOTSWANA IMMIGRATION REGULATIONS:
We have been advised that Botswana Immigration are now enforcing similar regulations to South Africa, applicable to all minors entering and exiting Botswana. These have apparently been in place for some time, however, they are only starting to really enforce them now to support the regional anti-child trafficking efforts. The key difference between SA and Botswana is that SA requires the unabridged birth certificate while Botswana does not, and Botswana will accept both the original or a certified copy. Botswana Immigration have acknowledged that they have not made this clear enough to date, and are in the process of amending their available documentation plus communicating this message to the public. While we do not have the official updated communication at this time, we would like to forewarn all travellers, so that they can be prepared accordingly.

If you're looking to explore Khaudum National Park you'll be happy to learn that this wild corner of Namibia's northern campsite is now privately owned, recently renovated and open for bookings.

There are now 6 sites situated under camelthorn trees, overlooking the beautiful omuramba. Each site has a braai area, wooden structured private ablutions and a shaded seating area. Guests are now required to book their units in advance to ensure that they will have a campsite upon arrival.

The campsites can be accessed from the south along the D3315 via Tsumkwe or from Katere along the Trans-Caprivi Highway (B8) in the north.

The campsite management is currently working on an online reservation system.

2 июля 2015 у меня истекает вклад в Энергомашбанке, который я открывал в Москве. Решил заказать наличные заранее и был приятно удивлен новостью что отделение в Москве закрыто. На вопрос как решить сию проблему сотрудники Энергомашбанка посоветовали мне позаботиться о приобретении билета до Санкт-Петербурга, разумеется за свой счет, при этом доказывая что все вкладчики были заблаговременно уведомлены о закрытии московского отделения.
При этом ни номера зарегистрированного письма с уведомлением о закрытии отделения в Москве, посланного мне, ни записи телефонного разговора, в котором сотрудник Энергомашбанка предупреждал меня об этом, ни показаний почтальона, который лично передал мне письмо в руки, Энергомашбанк не предоставил хотя несколько сотрудников упорно пытались меня убедить в том что я был предупрежден. Предоставить бесплатный железнодорожный (хотя бы) билет сотрудники банка отказались. Мое резюме: ужасный сервис и ужасный банк, абсолютное отсутствие какого-либо ответственного клиентского сервиса.

Save The Rhino Namibia: apprehension of poachers

Swift, coordinated action by SRT, MET and NAMPOL leads to the apprehension of poachers

After 173 days of no rhino poaching incidents in our region, on Saturday, 13 June, 2015, an approximately 13 year old rhino cow was found dead, a victim of wildlife crime.

While this is a tragic loss of life, we are proud of the collaborative response of the Save the Rhino Trust, Ministry of Environment and Tourism, NAMPOL and the Protected Resource Unit in apprehending the poachers.

SRT trackers reported suspicious tracks on Friday 12th and initiated the response protocol whilst continuing to follow the spoor. NAMPOL and MET were informed to coordinate the collaborative response.
Swift police action to block all exit routes from the area led to the arrest of five suspects in possession of the horns, rifle and butchering equipment by Saturday afternoon. The arrests preceded finding the carcass.  An additional team was deployed to the area to assist in finding the carcass.

The carcass was located on Sunday 14th and Scene of Crime Investigation conducted by the Protected Resources Unit of NAMPOL. NAMPOL PRU commended SRT as being instrumental in facilitating the arrests.

For this rhino we failed in our goal of protecting her from poachers.  However the co-ordinated efforts of SRT, MET, NAMPOL and our partners were tested successfully. We believe that this arrest and our swift action will help to deter further poaching.

For walking safaris guests initially depart by mokoro from Gunn’s Camp or Moremi Crossing and travel through the Okavango’s water-lily covered channels until they come to the palm-fringed edges of Chief’s Island in the game-rich Moremi Game Reserve.
During these game walks your guide will let you in on the secrets and workings of the African bush and offer a rare insight into the unique phenomenon of the Okavango Delta and the “little things” in this diverse ecosystem. The focus during this 2 to 3 hour activity is not solely on the larger species but learning about the more intriguing and unusal habits of smaller animals, tracking and spotting the ‘Little Five’ and ‘Ugly Five’, sighting birds and learning alarm calls as well as identifying plant-life and their medicinal uses.

Wildlife encountered on a game walk can range from the more common animals like Honeybadger, African Wildcat, Black-backed Jackal, Red Lechwe, Zebra to more unsual and rare animals like the shy Sitatunga and Pel’s fishing owl and even Wild Dogs. On mokoros you get to see monitor lizards, frogs, crocodiles and water birds like African Jacanas, African Fish Eagles, Bea-eaters and if you look carefully you will see the Malakite Kingfishers darting between the reeds.

Hi Hostels

I had a guest by the name Kenny Didier, passport number: 0B0225214 originally from Zambia/Ghana aged 25. He came coming from Island Vibes Backpackers in Knysna.

This guy checked in around 12 in the afternoon today (8 July 2015) and was supposed to stay for the night but he left without sleeping and said he had to go to a friend , living his deposit and the money he had paid for accommodation. After he left we noticed that he stole 400 us Dollars, R 1000 , an amount of EUROS that is unknown and a Sony camera that belonged to another guest in the Dorm room.
