Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR), a state-owned enterprise mandated to run the tourism facilities within the country, announced the commencement of major renovations in eight of its resorts.
Some of the resorts still to be refurbished are Sossus Dune Lodge, Onkoshi, Ai-Ais, Waterberg and Hardap Dam Resort. Renovations started this week and are expected to be completed by 31.10.22.
According to the WTTC 2021 country report, Namibia's total tourism sector in 2020 contributed 16.8 billion Namibia dollars or 9.8 % to the country's economy.

Frans Indongo Lodge:
The swimming pool at Frans Indongo Lodge needs to undergo urgent repairs and will not be available to clients for the remainder of this week.
The sun loungers and area around the swimming pool are still accessible to clients, it is only the swimming pool itself that is not available this week.
Hopefully the current cold front would preclude anyone from wanting to brave the water, but we do apologise for any inconvenience that these repairs may cause.

There have been some instances recently where clients have been given the incorrect information, directions and contact numbers for Kifaru Luxury Lodge and Bush Camp.
Rules and regulations for Rhino Tracking on Foot and Breakfast with the African Unicorns:
1. These activities are only available for adults and children above 12 years of age. A parent or legal guardian must accompany minors.
2. A maximum of 8 participants per walk will be allowed for safety reasons; a group bigger than 8 people is difficult to handle and compromises the group's safety in an emergency.
3. The guide reserves the right to decide if guests are physically & emotionally able to do the tracking activity; rhinos are wild animals and potentially dangerous. Our guides will not put any person or any rhinos life at risk. The guide's decision is final.
4. Regrettably, we cannot accommodate people with any disability/handicap restricting swift movement due to the terrain covered and the safety factor.
5. The guide will not be persuaded, talked into or bullied into doing anything by a guest, tour /operator, bookings agent or anyone else that he/she does not feel comfortable & safe to do.
6. Participants depend on the guide for their safety and for guidance. The guide ranger should always therefore be obeyed. Failure to co-operate in this respect could lead to the immediate cancellation of the activity.
7. Our guides will not do any activity or let an individual participate in any activity if he/she feels it is not safe, possible or legal.

Stuart was born and schooled in South Africa before spending time in Australia where he completed his Bachelor of Commerce degree at Monash University, Melbourne. Stuart held a number of sales roles before embarking on a career in the film and movie industry, where he spent 10+ years working for multiple companies and held a variety of roles including logistics, operations and financial supervision.
He later joined the tourism sector working as a Sales Manager, leading teams, developing business plans, overseeing sales performance, as well as training, developing and motivating teams.

Lemba
The Lemba or "wa-Remba" are a southern African ethnic group whose members are to be found in Zimbabwe and South Africa with some little known branches in Mozambique and Malawi. According to Tudor Parfitt they are thought to number 70,000.
They speak the Bantu languages spoken by their geographic neighbours and resemble them physically, but they have some religious practices and beliefs similar to those in Judaism and Islam, which they claim were transmitted by oral tradition. They have a tradition of ancient Jewish or South Arabian descent through their male line. Genetic Y-DNA analyses in the 2000s have established a partially Middle-Eastern origin for a portion of the male Lemba population. More recent research argues that DNA studies do not support claims for a specifically Jewish genetic heritage.

LONE STONE MEN OF KAOKOLAND
As one of the last remaining wilderness areas in Africa, it attracts hard-core travellers and explorers. It appeals to those who have already travelled the main tarmac arteries through the country and the myriad gravel tracks that branch off them like fibrous roots.
Kaokoland, as this remote and inhospitable region (now part of the Kunene Region) is known historically, has always been the Wild West of Namibia. And for those self-sufficient and experienced 4×4 travellers who venture further afield, it’s a desert Eden of mysteries and marvels.
The story of the Lone Men of Namibia is a mystery wrapped up in an enigma.
These stone men – or rather, sculptures – are scattered all over the country, and known as The Lone Men Of Kaokoland. Each figure has a disc attached to it, with a number and a message as to where it is going. Although a sculpture numbered 37 has been seen (and I won’t divulge its whereabouts), only 14 Lone Men have been found by us so far.
Each life-size sculpture is made from rock prevailing in the area, and depicts a different personality. In the dry remote landscape of Kaokoland, with its unforgiving climate and temperatures, you will see them (that’s if you can find them). Some are standing, some are sitting, some are on their knees with their hands in the air and there’s one holding on for dear life from an overhang.
But unlike most artists who display their name on their creations, the Lone Men of Namibia has no name connected to it. The sculptures each have a number on it and a message saying where the figure is heading.
And it all begs the question: who is the artist? No one knows.
The artist-with-no-name has managed to secretively construct, create and place these stone figures all over Namibia’s long forgotten landscape of silence, and it has become an open-air gallery that draws the spectator into the environment and emotions of each sculpture.
Of course, it also begs a few other questions. Why do these sculptures look so lonely, so haggard? How many are there? Are there more sculptures to be discovered? And is the artist still creating more?
Again no one knows.
And maybe that is the beauty of it all, the unknown wrapped up in the mystery.
Klein Windhoek - suburb of Windhoek
Klein Windhoek (literally - "Windhoek Minor" or "Little Windhoek" in German) is an affluent suburb of Windhoek, the capital of Namibia. The main streets in this suburb are: Nelson Mandela Avenue, Olof Palme Street, Ziegler Street, Metje Street, Kenneth Kaunda Street, Barella Street, Kuiseb Street.

The British explorer James Alexander had already visited the area of present Klein Windhoek in 1837. Klein Windhoek is the oldest part of the town, having been established in 1840 by Jonker Afrikaner and his 800-strong group. He had requested the services of a missionary, and the Rhenish Missionary Society (RMS) built the first house in the area in the same year. In 1842, missionaries Carl Hugo Hahn and Franz Heinrich Kleinschmidt worked here. They called the place Elberfeld, but Jonker Afrikaner's name prevailed. They were replaced by Wesleyan missionaries in 1844.

In 1896, Roman Catholic missionaries arrived. They purchased the RMS land in 1899 and converted it into an orchard and vineyard. In early 1900s Klein Windhoek was run by a separate municipality.
1909: Windhoek is an independent municipality with Gustav Voigts as the first Mayor. First Mayor of Klein Windhoek is Amandus Fritsche.
1921: Klein Windhoek falls under jurisdiction of Windhoek.
Klein Windhoek is a home for several embassies and diplomatic missions, including Russian Embassy (Christian Street), South African High Commission (in tall prominent building of old Berg Hotel), Embassy of Venezuela and Embassy of Egypt. Klein Windhoek River divides this suburb in two parts. Windhoek city center is located over a large hill from Klein Windhoek.
