EPUPA CAMP UPDATES

For Epupa Camp the end of 2014 was a time of big changes!

Epupa Camp is now equipped with a solar network with a capacity of about 25 kWh per day, installed in November. This mean that the night owls will be able to read at night and no more noisy generators, except when there is not enough sunlight due to cloud cover. Unfortunately – for our arid Eden - this does not happen too often in Namibia.
In the same week, Wouter van Zijl and Freddie Diergaardt built a new suspension bridge across the Kunene River from the lodge to the island directly to the north. Made from galvanised high tension steel cables, bolts and nuts  and steel plates for the floor, the bridge apes the model of the Golden Great bridge across San Francisco Bay, on a much smaller scale of course. The old bridge was washed away by the 2011 flood.

Once you have crossed the bridge, you can relax on the island where a double swing bed hangs in the shade of the Ana trees. Opened mainly as a relaxation area, the island will be equipped with sexy guitar chairs, hangmats and a portable bar. Photos: Epupa Camp.
