NEW SLEEPER TRAIN LAUNCH IN ZIMBABWE
Imvelo Safari Lodges recently launched “The Stimela Star”, Zimbabwe’s only private overnight sleeper train.
The Stimela Star operates scheduled departures from Victoria Falls, for an overnight journey to Hwange National Park, linking up to the regular Victoria Falls – Bulawayo passenger train.
The train is powered by a diesel electric locomotive, and the train cars date back to the origins of the national railway in Zimbabwe. The former Premier Class coaches have been upgraded.
The train has 2 sleeper carriages; each can host 12 passengers, totalling 24 guests per trip, in twin or single compartments, with a shared toilet and shower facilities at either end of each carriage.
Guests are encouraged to arrive at Victoria Falls station at around 18h00 for embarkation. Upon arrival, guests will be shown to the lounge car to enjoy welcome drinks during an orientation and safety talk, whilst their luggage is being stowed in their cabins. Departure is scheduled for approximately 19h00. Pre-dinner drinks and canapés in the bar lounge are followed by a 3-course dinner. Guests disembark the train in Hwange the following morning after breakfast, at around 08h00.
