Update from Sun International

18 March 2020

Dear Sun International Guest

We noted with concern that the number of positive COVID-19 cases in South Africa has increased over the past two weeks, and that the infection is now no longer limited to overseas travellers.

To contain the spread of the virus in South Africa, the Presidency has announced a National State of Disaster. In light of this, travel to and from high-risk countries will be affected, so we will be allowing groups and individuals from these areas to rebook their trips at a future time.

There will also be a prohibition on any public gathering of 100 or more people, so all of our upcoming shows and events will have to be postponed for the near future or cancelled. We will work with promoters and organisers to reschedule these when we know the period of the ban.

All of Sun International’s South African hotels and casinos remain open for business.

With respect to our properties, our advice to our guests is aligned with the World Health Organisation (“WHO”) and other health organisations:

• If you are not in an area where COVID-19 is spreading, or have not travelled from an area where it is spreading, or have not been in contact with an infected patient, your risk of infection is low.
• While you may understandably feel anxious about the outbreak, get the facts from reliable sources to help you accurately determine your risks so that you can take reasonable precautions. These include the WHO website, healthcare providers or national public health authorities.
• If you are living in an area that has experienced an outbreak of COVID-19, ensure that you are fully informed of the situation and understand whatever precautions you might need to take before travelling.
• For most people, a COVID-19 infection will cause mild illness. It can however cause severe illness and, for some people, it can be fatal. Older people and those with pre-existing medical conditions (such as cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory disease or diabetes) are at greater risk.
• For South Africans who are concerned about the virus, or suspect you might have the symptoms, call 0800 029 999 for information and advice.

At Sun International we have always adhered to the strictest principles of hygiene and cleanliness at all of our hotels, casinos and other facilities. We have enhanced our cleaning schedules and implemented additional cleaning and hygiene practices in our housekeeping and food and beverage areas including:

• Making hand sanitisers available at all entrances to hotels, casinos, conference areas. Hand sanitisers are also available in staff areas;
• Increased cleaning of surfaces in public areas;
• Enhanced cleaning of high touchpoint areas, for example door handles, escalator handrails, slot machines, casino tables, elevator buttons and card machines, as examples. We have also increased cleaning on Sun City Resorts shuttle busses;
• Constantly reviewing and stepping up hygiene and safety in all food preparation and handling areas;
• Our front of house messaging reminds all guests of the importance of personal hygiene and hand sanitising.

In addition, Sun International will be removing seats from every second slot machine at our casinos to better ensure social distancing. Our Tables games will be limited to a maximum of four players per table with extra seats being removed and all of our upcoming casino draws, promotions and tournaments have been cancelled until further notice.

We are also reducing the seating capacity at our dining areas to maintain a sensible distance between tables, and to limit the number of diners in each area to a maximum of 100. All of our onsite crèches will be closed.

We realise this might result in some inconvenience or disappointment to our patrons. But we are all in this together. By taking sensible decisions to ensure our health and wellbeing, we can reduce the impact of this virus and keep ourselves and our families safe. Together we can make a difference.

Actions you can also take to protect yourself from contracting the disease include:

• Regularly and thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water;
• Travel with sufficient quantities of wet wipes and hand sanitiser (65%+ alcohol content), subject to airline restrictions;
• Avoid touching your face unless you have thoroughly washed your hands;
• Maintain a distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing or generally displays signs of a cold;
• If you feel unwell, have a fever, are coughing or have difficulty in breathing, keep your distance from others and seek medical attention immediately;
• While travelling consume foods that are cooked thoroughly;
• There is no evidence that single-use face masks are effective, but should you wish to travel with them remember not to touch your mask once it is on, and do not attempt to reuse your mask more than once. Discard each mask in a proper bin and wash your hands immediately after removing it.
