Walvis Bay, Namibia: another whale washed ashore

Another humpback whale was washed ashore near Donkey Bay on the Pelican Point peninsula north-west of Walvis Bay recently. The humpback whale is distinguished by its long pectoral fins and knob on its head. There are no visible injuries on the whale’s carcass, leaving the cause of death unknown.A number of whale deaths occurred along the Namibian Atlantic coast in recent months, the most notably being two humpback whales that washed ashore between the Hoarusib River mouth and Rocky Point some weeks ago, as well as a long finned pilot whale which washed was ashore and died south of Cape Fria in Skeleton Coast Park.
