1884-1915, An Artistic Position
Date: Tuesday, 09.02.2016 (ends 12.03.2016)
Time: Whole day
Region: Khomas
Town: Windhoek
Venue: National Art Gallery of Namibia (NAGN)
The National Art Gallery of Namibia is happy to invite you to the opening of '1884 - 1915, An Artistic Position' on Thursday, 4 February 2016 at 18:30.
The exhibition, curated with the German artist/ curator Spunk Seipel, is an attempt to approach a very difficult chapter of our history: the German colonial era in Namibia that lasted from 1884 to 1915.
Now, more than a hundred years later, the influence of German colonialism can be still perceived in everyday Namibian life. Artists from Namibia and Germany (as well as further afield) have therefore responded to this topic: through their work we glimpse a suggestion of how one might navigate this historic reality, from its origins to our current attempts to process it.
This exhibition does not make a definite statement, rather it is a series of positions and statements that come together to create dialog.
Please join us at the opening to participate and converse in this important dialog.
