Walvis Bay commemorative book planned

The Municipality of Walvis Bay, in association with various partners, plans to publish a book commemorating the 20th anniversary of Walvis Bay's reintegration into Namibia. Overwhelmingly positive changes have taken place since 1 March 1994, when Walvis Bay was still referred to as a sleeping fishing village. Today it is bursting at the seams in a self-propelling drive to become a major industrial port city, well-connected to the global village. In order to capture the quintessence of this 20-year period, interested parties are hereby invited to submit proposals for the successful production of this publication, which should include the actual 20th Commemoration itself. The publication should be available to the local public and an inter-national audience by 31 July 2014. Along with covering newspaper stories and detailing the development and growth of Walvis Bay during this period, the successful tenderer (who will be appointed at a later stage) will be expected to finish the first draft in April 2014. After that, the final draft will be available by 30 June 2014 to allow the book one final chance to be viewed by the review panel before a final copy is printed and sold. The book will consist of historic moments, current developments, photographs and illustrations, and interviews with notable personalities who have contributed to the development and growth of Walvis Bay. - Namib Times
