Namibia: Drum Circle is back at Windhoek Joe's Beer House

Drum Circle is back at Windhoek Joe's Beer House

Ongoma Drum Cafe Namibia

160 Nelson Mandela Avenue, Windhoek

Video of drumming session:

Drumming reduces tension, anxiety and stress, and all had our fair share of that during Corona times. Drumming is a path of healing, releasing and restoring. It boosts the immune system, too. And it’s great fun.

In Phase 4 after lockdown in Namibia we may now, once again, welcome more participants to our drum circle. But since the weekly event is not subsidised by Joe's Beer House for the time being (and until the tourists come back), we would like to encourage a minimum donation of N$ 50 per participant to make it work.

This isn't exactly a drumming class. But we still aim to teach new rhythms and techniques each week to keep things interesting for our loyal drumming community while at the same time accommodating first-time drummers.

This is great fun for kids, too!

Ongoma Drum Cafe Namibia

The Drum Cafe Philosophy

Testimonials by happy clients

Smiling faces at every drumming session - We bring joy wherever we go!

It's that time of the year where you've got to think about giving back to your employees. At the same time you are looking at motivating and uniting your work force behind one common goal. You need something to uplift spirits, right?
Look no further, because we are here to surpise you with a truly positive and inspirational show!

Be it corporate entertainment or one of our interactive group music sessions, Drum Cafe Namibia Windhoek has the answer.

Each event is built on a similar philosophy of team building, but is fun and effective in a unique way.

Never thought a group of engineers can make music? Think again!

This is our philosophy at Drum Cafe Namibia:

Well run companies can be compared to making music in a drum circle. We have two main principles about making successful music:
Everyone plays the same Bass
We have to listen to each other

If we can get the group to follow these two principles, as a group
We are able to build a community, ie more than just working together
A community that is non-competitive
A community that realizes that we are all here for the same reason
Each person, no matter how small their part is, has an integral role and contribution to our community. (When you play an instrument, even something as small as a triangle, your brain interprets that you are making the whole music)
We can make music

At Drum Cafe events participants are seated in a circle as a circle represents no hierarchy - every one is on the same level and it allows barriers to be broken.

Group drumming is a powerful team building method, because the effect is immediate and is felt by everyone. The individual has to be aware of his/her neighbours and has a direct effect on the group.

One is carried by the group’s rhythm. This creates a sense of trust and safety. The sustained repetition of the beat draws you in, relaxing and mesmerizing.

You feel your contribution is what is making up the group's music, you are part of an orchestra, a team.

This unifying experience sets the tone for the truly powerful analogy between a drumming orchestra and a team.

A drum circle gives the participants the euphoria that THEIR ROLL is an integral part of the company, no matter where they are.

Group drumming is a powerful team building method, because the effect is immediate and felt by everyone.

"We’ve done a couple of team activities in the past but I can honestly say that the drum playing was one of the biggest hits so far."

Adjani Plichta, Payroll Consultant, CR VAN WYK & COMPANY

"The Drum Cafe comes highly recommended for any event - it helped us to get a powerful leadership message through and also helped participants to internalize the learning of the day."

Trudi van Rooyen, General Manager: Human Resources, MANICA GROUP NAMIBIA for BIDVEST NAMIBIA

"I was very sceptical at first but before I knew the vibes of the drum beats and the atmosphere took over and it was enjoyment pure. Thank you for the unforgettable experience!"
