Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp

Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp

Right at the edge of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp and its brand-new safari tents sit amongst the region’s striking acacia trees. Facing south into the fernlike crown of the forest's canopy, the camp has a unique perspective on the wow-inducing extinct-volcano landscape.

All 10 of the classic canvas tents have been beautifully decorated and furnished with an earthy natural palette, highlighted with reddish-browns accents and the pale yellows of acacia blossom, complementing the biodiversity of this remarkable terrain.

The word ‘glamping’ certainly applies when describing these chic tents — as well as stylish wooden framed furniture, and luxurious beds, designer pieces such as butterfly chairs in rich dark browns add a touch of glamour.

An entirely new lounge area, a dining room with linen-covered tables and sparkling tableware, and wraparound decking have been created — all raised up to ensure panoramic views over the flat-topped acacias. Soft fabric cascades down from the tent-top, giving an elegant sense to complement the restful sofas and fauteuils, and the striking photography on show.

Overlooking the Deteema seeps, this camp offers one the opportunity to sit and view incredible wildlife from the luxury of your veranda, game drive in one of Hwange’s finest wildlife areas, or walk the diverse mountainous region of northern Hwange. “This camp will become one of Hwange’s finest” said a well-known Zimbabwe professional guide.

Deka Camp

Opening just a month after Deteema, Deka will open its doors on the 1 June 2019.

Just six tents make up this small intimate camp. Located in the wild north west of Hwange national Park, Deka redefines big sky country. Nestled atop a small hill overlooking the permanent water of the Deka seeps, this camp has views which stretch forever. Wildlife abounds in this wild country, with some of the best walking in Zimbabwe. Game drives as well as night drives in our concession round off a very diverse offering.

Ingwe Pan Camp

Situated in the famous Mana Pools National Park, Ingwe will open it’s doors in 2020.

Gomoti Private

The camp is open.

Just two luxury tents, one family and one double, plus a private dining and pool area make up this small exclusive part of Gomoti. Situated at Gomoti Plains yet totally private. Your own camp, staff and experienced field guide. Gomoti private is booked on an exclusive basis only.

Zambia: Royal Zambezi Lodge launches chartered flights

Royal Zambezi Lodge launches scheduled chartered flights

Royal Zambezi Lodge, in partnership with Royal Air Charters, have just launched chartered flights in the Lower Zambezi region.
The lodge and their sister company have decided to launch scheduled charter flights for travelers visiting the region, which may be used regardless of where they are staying. The schedule will be managed and run by Royal Zambezi Lodge, and all flights will be booked through their flight reservations team.

This is a fantastic new development as airlines that have previously serviced these routes have ceased flights to Royal Airstrip.

"As an accommodation provider in the Lower Zambezi, we identified the need to improve access for travelers wanting to connect between Livingstone, Royal Airstrip and Lusaka in Zambia. In line with this, we have contracted Royal Air Charters to operate scheduled flights on our behalf for the benefit of the destination and are pleased to launch the RZL Charter Flight Schedule 2019. These flights will be open for general consumption and guests staying in any lodges in the Lower Zambezi can use them," says Lauren Mallet, Head of Sales and Marketing at Royal Zambezi Lodge.

Serengeti Explorer Camp

Premier Serengeti Camp
Unimaginable proximity to nature is now proudly offered by Newmark Hotels, Residences, Reserves & Lodges. The distinguished hotel property group is pleased to announce its acquisition of Serengeti Explorer Camp – a majestic camp that changes location within Serengeti National Park twice a year, following the masses of wildebeest and other animals.

From April 2018, Newmark officially took over the ownership and management of this world-class camp, adding to its portfolio of top-end hotels, reserves, residences and lodges in Africa.

Comments Neil Markovitz, Founder and Managing Director of Newmark: “Welcoming Serengeti Explorer Camp to the Newmark portfolio is a tremendous milestone. Everything about this property – the setting, the experience and the accommodation is truly remarkable.

“Serengeti Explorer Camp comprises 12 spacious and incredibly private tents, each offering top-end “glamping” accommodation which is ideally suited to couples and families. To mark the beginning of a new chapter, Newmark will be carrying out a soft refurbishment on the existing accommodation by introducing new decor and fittings, taking the property to even greater heights.

The gentle overhaul, which is set to be complete by July 2018, will include the introduction of neutral tones, wooden features and African-inspired patterns which perfectly complement the camp’s striking surroundings in each of its two locations.

From 15 December to 31 March, the camp is located in the Ndutu region on the park’s border, near to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. From 1 June to 31 October, the camp is situated in the Lobo region in the northern part of the park, closer to the Kenyan border.

Given the migratory nature of Serengeti Explorer Camp, it allows for unmatched game viewing opportunities, which can be enjoyed by safari vehicle or by hot air balloon. Ensuring that children have an equally thrilling experience at the camp, the Rafiki Explorer Club is offered as an added value to families travelling with children aged six to 15.

Neil Markovitz concludes: “I can confidently say that a visit to Serengeti Explorer Camp will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. As we eagerly anticipate the arrival of guests from around the world, we also look to the future and envision spectacular opportunities for our guests to experience Tanzania’s diversity by combining a visit to Serengeti Explorer Camp with a trip to our chic island destination, Chuini Zanzibar Beach Lodge. We take pride in offering guests a premier experience at each of our properties and are excited to do so with greater reach in eastern Africa.

1. Serengeti National Park spans a large region of Tanzania and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is contiguous with the Masai Mara in Kenya. The Serengeti migration area, is where over one million white-bearded wildebeest and other species migrate from Masai Mara in Kenya to Serengeti in Tanzania on an annual basis. This area comprises of Serengeti National Park, in Tanzania and Masai Mara Game Reserve, in Kenya, among other game reserves and conservation areas.

2. Serengeti Explorer Camp opens for reservations from 1 April 2018. The Camp is not operational during the months of April, May and November, as well as early December.

Botswana: Camp Xakanaxa & Savute Safari Lodge upgrades

CAMP XAKANAXA TENT REFURBISHMENT & SAVUTE SAFARI LODGE PUBLIC AREAS RENOVATIONS

Update from Desert & Delta Safaris

Each year we close our camps in February for annual maintenance and general up keep. This year we have extended the closure dates of Camp Xakanaxa & Savute Safari Lodge for some exciting refurbishments which are all detailed below.
Camp Xakanaxa has commenced refurbishment to all 11 luxury tents during the existing extended closure and will be reopening on the 1st March 2019.
The refurbishment will include a fresh canvas wrap, some new furnishings and a retouch of existing decor. While the room refurbishment will create significantly more space to the interiors, it will still be aligned with the authentic intimate camp style that Camp Xakanaxa has successfully maintained for so many years.
We will also be including a family tent, which has two separate bedrooms, two bathrooms, a comfortable lounge and a private deck area. There is also an additional sleeper couch in the second bedroom to cater for families with three children. These changes will alter the total camp size to 11 standard tents and one family tent.

More Family Inventory in 2019!
With the addition of a new family room available from the 1st March 2019 at Leroo La Tau & Camp Xakanaxa the Ultimate Family Safari Package is now easier to sell. For all new 2019 bookings you can now choose from Chobe Game Lodge, Savute Safari Lodge, Camp Moremi, Camp Xakanaxa, Camp Okavango and Leroo La Tau - all with family rooms as well as the amazing value adds of private activities, kids safari accessories and special activities just for the family included in the package!
Extensive refurbishments to the main public areas overlooking the channel & waterholes are taking place during the extended closure period this January - March 2019.

The concept of the new areas is to make best use of the space in-front of the Savute channel and active waterhole. The new facilities will include a relocation of the swimming pool to a more discreet location facing the channel, new walkways,  multiple dining locations and new deck areas with a live cooking area for brunches and dinner.

Multiple levelled viewing decks will all be connected by walkways providing different vantage points over the waterhole where guests will have the opportunity to find their own space to enjoy bar service and admire the remarkable animal encounters that take place around the channel and waterhole.

Savute Safari Lodge is renowned for some of Africa's most intense “in-lodge” wildlife experiences and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to make the most of this location in the upcoming refurbishment.
Camp Xakanaxa is located within Moremi Game Reserve, set on the bank of the Khwai River. Steeped in history as the first camp to be built inside the Moremi Game Reserve, Camp Xakanaxa is a traditional styled camp offering travellers the chance to explore one of Botswana's most diverse natural wildernesses. Activities on offer at Camp Xakanaxa include daily guided game drives in search of the prolific wildlife which inhabit the area, as well as motorboat safaris for a chance to experience the Okavango Delta.

1934 Hudson Terraplane wreck
Klein Aus Vista
Southern Namibia

Bullet-ridden Hudson Terraplane 1934 car wreck remains can be seen near Klein Aus Vista's Geisterschlucht Cabin in southern Namibia, just off main tar road between Keetmanshoop and Luderitz. Hudson is a relic of a gunfight between diamond smugglers and South-West Africa police force.

This rustic "Ghost Canyon" cabin, located 6 km from Desert Horse Inn, offers simplistic while exclusive accommodation as it tucked away in a secluded valley, where a rusty bullet-ridden Hudson Terraplane 1934 wreck greets you at the entrance road.
