Namibia: lunching on African bullfrogs

Following good rains, some people in the northern parts of the country are catching frogs at earth dams and pans, and eating them. African bullfrogs, sometimes referred to as 'Omafuma' locally, are prized in Namibia and are a good source of protein. Frogs are sold for between N$10 and N$20 each, depending on their size:

После недавних тропических дождей местные торговцы в северных частях Намибии ловят лягушек в земляных дамбах и плотинах и лотках и едят или их как деликатес. Африканские лягушки-быки, которых местные жители иногда называют «омафума», ценятся в Намибии и являются хорошим источником белка.

Лягушки продаются по цене от 10 до 20 намибийских долларов каждая (от 50 до 100 рублей), в зависимости от размера.

Namibia: Otjiwa Lodge - Eagle's Rest and Mountain Lodge | Очива Лодж Намибия

Eagle's Rest and Mountain Lodge

Otjiwa Safari Lodge, in the central highlands region of Northern Namibia, has started 2022 with a bang, with not one, but TWO major renovation projects.

At Eagle's Rest, the main reception, dining and bar areas have been completely rebuilt, changing the entire look and feel of the lodge itself.

The reception area is lighter, brighter and more inviting, creating a cozy ambience which invites the traveler to take off their shoes, and feel right at home!

The Farmhouse Restaurant has a new menu, taking inspiration from local cuisine.

As promised, we have new images of the main area.

The, very aptly named, Mountain Lodge is set perched atop a kopje with panoramic views over the Namibian bush below.

The main area has been completely refurbished and exudes an air of easy luxury. It is the perfect marriage of  African style and western architecture.

The five luxury chalets will be completely revamped during the course of 2022 (we are hoping that the first one will be completed within the next few weeks) and at the start of the 2023 tourism season, we will be launching Mountain Lodge as a new, high end product offering in Namibia.

Namibia: Outjo Crocodile Crossing Park | Парк крокодилов в Намибии

The first crocodile park in Namibia where visitors will be able to dive with the crocodiles is going to be opened soon in northern town Outjo.
Only South Africa has a crocodile park where visitors can dive with crocodiles in Africa.

Visitors will be lowered into the water in a steel cage, similar to ones used for deep water diving to predators such as sharks, and they will view the crocodiles in the water from the safety of the cage.

The new crocodile park is an extension of Otjiwarongo's crocodile park, one of most visited places in the Otjozondjupa Region of Namibia.

There will be about 50 crocodiles at the park and visitors can either choose to visit the curio shop and at times even get to feed the crocodiles from a safe distance.

Visitors can also dine on the delicious crocodile meat later in 2020There will be a restaurant or a take away outlet at the crocodile park. Some sections of the crocodile park are expected to open in April 2020.

O&L Leisure news

O&L LEISURE TODAY - 2019

It is a great privilege and with a distinct sense of pride that I join the beautiful and passionate O & L Leisure team!

I could feel the energy the first day I walked into the office and appreciate the warm welcome from the team.

I have been part of the O&L group for 10 years this year, starting my journey off at Namibia Breweries, then moving on to Pick n Pay Namibia, before now joining the O&L Leisure group. I am very excited about this new opportunity to help our business grow and with my love for nature, my passion for people and creating amazing experiences, I look forward to play my part in contributing to the success of O&L Leisure and her people.

Despite the usual challenges we can be very proud of what we, as a company, have achieved. We need to, continuously, look at improving the future, enhancing the guest experiences at our beautiful properties and identify breakthroughs for an even better O & L Leisure.

The future looks even more exciting: Our Vision 2025 of becoming Namibia’s most loved destinations through consistently delivering unique, unforgettable and personal experiences you love, has started in earnest and there are many exciting plans already being formulated to get us on that road.

Let us all continue to inspire each other and deliver amazing experiences to our guests in pursuit of this Vision.

A quick personal insight to getting to know me better:

I have been married to my lovely wife Sandra (who is also in the industry) for almost 10 years and we have 2 highly energetic daughters (who are the real bosses) aged 2 and 7.

I was born in the small town of Otjiwarongo in the central North of Namibia and spent my entire school life there. Having qualified as a Chartered Accountant, I spent a few years exploring the world, combining work with travels, before realising that home is really where the heart is and thus I returned back to our beautiful Namibia – the best decision I ever made!

I am passionate about people and leadership. Nothing inspires me more to be able to help people succeed and be the best they can be. I hope this, combined with my love for Namibia and its beautiful outdoors, will allow me to play my part in taking O&L Leisure on the next step of its journey.

Now that you know a little more about myself, I look forward to, over time, getting to know you all  better and together creating a brighter future in the Namibian tourism industry and beyond.

Yours in hospitality,

Norbert
