Kenya: Increase in Masai Mara 2024 Park Fees

News from Sanctuary Retreats

Increase in Masai Mara 2024 Park Fees

We wanted to inform you that over the past few months, there have been ongoing discussions concerning the management and conservation of Kenya's national parks, game reserves and conservancies on how to ensure that Kenya is able to preserve some of its most treasured and vulnerable wildlife spaces in 2024 and beyond.

To do this the Kenya Wildlife Service and Narok County Government have announced the gazettement of the increases to park fees, please find the confirmed 2024 Masai Mara park fees below. We are informing our partners as these increases will have to be passed on for all new and existing/confirmed bookings from January 2024 as this is a government fee that is beyond our control.

Masai Mara:

The Narok County government is looking to implement the following changes:

1. Park fees are now only valid for 12 hours: from 6 am to 6 pm daily. The original park fees were valid for 24 hours from the time of entry.

° On the departure day, guests have until 11 am to exit to avoid incurring further park fees. This means that guests who are booked on afternoon departure flights will be subject to an additional day of park fees.

° This change has already been implemented by the Masai Mara Rangers and we are currently managing this on a case-by-case basis on the ground for 2023 confirmed bookings.

° The additional day's park fee will be applied to any late departures from the Masai Mara to all confirmed and new bookings.

     2. The proposed 2024 park fees will be increased by the following amounts:

° 1 January – 30 June 2024: The new rates are USD 100 for the low season, taking effect from January 2024.

° 1 July – 31 December 2024: The new rates are USD 200 for the high season, taking effect from July 2024.

We hope this upfront communication will assist you in communicating.

Kenya: Sanctuary Tambarare Private Villa

Privacy in the Heart of the Bush

Following the successful opening of Sanctuary Tambarare in Ol Pejeta Conservancy last year, we're delighted to announce the opening of a brand new two-bedroom Private Villa at this exceptional camp in July 2023.

Sanctuary Tambarare is located in a secluded spot in the wildlife rich 90,000 acre Ol Pejeta Conservancy where the Big Five roam including the last two northern white rhino. With an abundance of wildlife on the camp's doorstep, Sanctuary Tambarare delivers the perfect balance of adventure and serenity.

Contemporary style meets characterful interiors in the villa's two en-suite bedrooms, indoor and outdoor lounge and dining area, bar, private deck and boma.

The sophisticated free-flowing space contains two bedrooms, each fully ensuite and decorated in a boutique-meets-bush design, updated with contemporary style, from teak floors to unique touches that reflect the local culture. Enjoy floor-to-ceiling cinematic views of the landscape from the super king beds.

Inside the spacious and beautifully appointed private lounge and dining area, inviting sofas and chairs encourage you to relax. With indoor and outdoor space, immerse yourself in the dramatic landscape and experience a strong connection of place. Meals are prepared by a private chef and can be served in the tented dining area or al fresco under the vast African sky.

The villa’s colours are inspired by nature, from ‘sun-bleached’ wood and wicker lampshades to intense bursts of colour in the exuberant fabrics, like wildflowers dotted around the landscape. After adventurous days tracking lions, riding horses with rhinos or spotting the Big Five from your private game drive vehicle, retire to the villa to enjoy sundowners straight from your personal, fully stocked bar.

Nomad Africa: February News & Updates

February News & Updates

Nomad Africa - February Specials & Future Updates

2022 is well underway and already we are starting to see signs of recovery after the destruction of Omicron in late November and December. Our enquiries are back to numbers that we saw in November 2021 and for this, we want to thank you for once again sticking around and helping us through this wave. During January we have been doing an extensive amount of plotting, planning and research with special attention being paid to two core routes; Cape Town to Vic Falls and the South African Explorer.

Please take a moment to read further on the exciting updates.

RETURNING TO ZIMBABWE

As announced in our December newsletter, a move back to Zimbabwe (Victoria Falls) was imminent. We are pleased to confirm that all our tours will be returning to Victoria Falls, with effect 01 April 2022. Any tour departing in March 2022 will end in Livingstone (should the ending date fall into April). This change is effective for tours departing 01 April.

Our reservations team will be contacting you in due course to confirm whether you would like to keep pre / post arrangements in Livingstone. Guests who choose to keep their pre / post arrangements in Livingstone will be offered a transfer in the Nomad truck after the completion of the tour. (The offer of a Nomad transfer will be offered as a fixed date & time which will be communicated to you). This arrangement is only valid to guests who have a confirmed booking in place and who’s pre / post arrangements have been made through us. Please allow us time to reach out to you first.

SOUTH AFRICAN EXPLORER TO REMAIN ONE COUNTRY TOUR FOR 2022

After receiving extensive feedback from our trade partners & guests, we can confirm that our South African Explorer tour will remain a uniquely one-country tour (within South Africa) for the remainder of 2022. Our product and operations team have combined their efforts and the route has been further tweaked to maximise the guests’ experience. The changes do not take anything away from the existing stand alone tour we shared in December, meaning activities and highlights are still catered for. The changes are limited to;

- Additional on route stops to showcase highlights on the route

- Hermanus overnight shifts to Stanford, Visit to Hermanus remains

- Introduction of a hike at De Hoop Nature Reserve and a stop at the Southern most tip of Africa, Cape Agulhas

- Swellendam overnight introduced in place of Gooderson Knysna (time in Knysna still remains as part of the itinerary). New berry tasting experience included

- Additional restaurant dinners included

- Historical Tour Graaff Reinet

- Move to Himeville Southern Drakensberg

- One night Gooderson Natal Spa

After a visit to the Murchison Falls National Park we’ll head up to Budongo Forest, the biggest Mahogany forest found in East Africa and is home to the largest number of chimpanzees throughout Uganda. We will meet up with our chimp guide who will take us on our trek through the forest in search of the chimps. Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp

Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp

Right at the edge of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp and its brand-new safari tents sit amongst the region’s striking acacia trees. Facing south into the fernlike crown of the forest's canopy, the camp has a unique perspective on the wow-inducing extinct-volcano landscape.

All 10 of the classic canvas tents have been beautifully decorated and furnished with an earthy natural palette, highlighted with reddish-browns accents and the pale yellows of acacia blossom, complementing the biodiversity of this remarkable terrain.

The word ‘glamping’ certainly applies when describing these chic tents — as well as stylish wooden framed furniture, and luxurious beds, designer pieces such as butterfly chairs in rich dark browns add a touch of glamour.

An entirely new lounge area, a dining room with linen-covered tables and sparkling tableware, and wraparound decking have been created — all raised up to ensure panoramic views over the flat-topped acacias. Soft fabric cascades down from the tent-top, giving an elegant sense to complement the restful sofas and fauteuils, and the striking photography on show.
