Update from Sun International

18 March 2020

Dear Sun International Guest

We noted with concern that the number of positive COVID-19 cases in South Africa has increased over the past two weeks, and that the infection is now no longer limited to overseas travellers.

To contain the spread of the virus in South Africa, the Presidency has announced a National State of Disaster. In light of this, travel to and from high-risk countries will be affected, so we will be allowing groups and individuals from these areas to rebook their trips at a future time.

There will also be a prohibition on any public gathering of 100 or more people, so all of our upcoming shows and events will have to be postponed for the near future or cancelled. We will work with promoters and organisers to reschedule these when we know the period of the ban.

All of Sun International’s South African hotels and casinos remain open for business.

With respect to our properties, our advice to our guests is aligned with the World Health Organisation (“WHO”) and other health organisations:

• If you are not in an area where COVID-19 is spreading, or have not travelled from an area where it is spreading, or have not been in contact with an infected patient, your risk of infection is low.
• While you may understandably feel anxious about the outbreak, get the facts from reliable sources to help you accurately determine your risks so that you can take reasonable precautions. These include the WHO website, healthcare providers or national public health authorities.
• If you are living in an area that has experienced an outbreak of COVID-19, ensure that you are fully informed of the situation and understand whatever precautions you might need to take before travelling.
• For most people, a COVID-19 infection will cause mild illness. It can however cause severe illness and, for some people, it can be fatal. Older people and those with pre-existing medical conditions (such as cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory disease or diabetes) are at greater risk.
• For South Africans who are concerned about the virus, or suspect you might have the symptoms, call 0800 029 999 for information and advice.

At Sun International we have always adhered to the strictest principles of hygiene and cleanliness at all of our hotels, casinos and other facilities. We have enhanced our cleaning schedules and implemented additional cleaning and hygiene practices in our housekeeping and food and beverage areas including:

• Making hand sanitisers available at all entrances to hotels, casinos, conference areas. Hand sanitisers are also available in staff areas;
• Increased cleaning of surfaces in public areas;
• Enhanced cleaning of high touchpoint areas, for example door handles, escalator handrails, slot machines, casino tables, elevator buttons and card machines, as examples. We have also increased cleaning on Sun City Resorts shuttle busses;
• Constantly reviewing and stepping up hygiene and safety in all food preparation and handling areas;
• Our front of house messaging reminds all guests of the importance of personal hygiene and hand sanitising.

In addition, Sun International will be removing seats from every second slot machine at our casinos to better ensure social distancing. Our Tables games will be limited to a maximum of four players per table with extra seats being removed and all of our upcoming casino draws, promotions and tournaments have been cancelled until further notice.

We are also reducing the seating capacity at our dining areas to maintain a sensible distance between tables, and to limit the number of diners in each area to a maximum of 100. All of our onsite crèches will be closed.

We realise this might result in some inconvenience or disappointment to our patrons. But we are all in this together. By taking sensible decisions to ensure our health and wellbeing, we can reduce the impact of this virus and keep ourselves and our families safe. Together we can make a difference.

Actions you can also take to protect yourself from contracting the disease include:

• Regularly and thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water;
• Travel with sufficient quantities of wet wipes and hand sanitiser (65%+ alcohol content), subject to airline restrictions;
• Avoid touching your face unless you have thoroughly washed your hands;
• Maintain a distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing or generally displays signs of a cold;
• If you feel unwell, have a fever, are coughing or have difficulty in breathing, keep your distance from others and seek medical attention immediately;
• While travelling consume foods that are cooked thoroughly;
• There is no evidence that single-use face masks are effective, but should you wish to travel with them remember not to touch your mask once it is on, and do not attempt to reuse your mask more than once. Discard each mask in a proper bin and wash your hands immediately after removing it.

SUN INTERNATIONAL IS READY TO REOPEN

Resorts, Hotels, Casinos and Restaurants to reopen.

Sun International welcomes the announcement by the President to reopen its Resorts, Hotels, Casinos and Restaurants.

Anthony Leeming, Sun International CEO said, “Once government has announced the dates we will stagger the reopening of our properties across the country. Our leisure attractions, golf courses and swimming pools will also reopen subject to necessary regulatory guidance.

“We have put in place world class health and safety protocols which are considerably beyond what is required. Our properties will observe strict head counts and social distancing rules.

“Prior to the lockdown, we had introduced social distancing queue management, while every alternative seat at our casino slot machines and tables was removed to create space between customers. Our restaurant layouts were also reconfigured to increase space between tables and meet head count limits. We had also introduced stringent and comprehensive cleaning, sanitising and front and back-of-house food handling and housekeeping procedures. These measures have now been further amplified across all areas of our properties countrywide.

“Once we reopen, we will conduct temperature tests for all customers at our hospitality, leisure and gaming operations, and all guests will need to complete a medical screening questionnaire on arrival at hotels, and in advance for casino visitors. For the foreseeable future, only members of our loyalty programme - our Most Valued Guests (MVGs) - will be allowed access onto the casino floor. It will be mandatory for all visitors to wear cloth masks at all times.

“After an extended lockdown, we have put every measure in place to welcome our first guests back to our properties, and we will do everything required and more to keep them safe while they enjoy themselves.”

South Africa: news from Sun City management | Сан Сити ЮАР

#SunCity #SouthAfrica #AnimalWorld #SunInternational #СанСитиЮАР

Sun City Management has decided to close the Animal World facility due to the perception of the general public about keeping animals in cages.

As an environmentally responsible company, we have re-homed all the domestic animals to a local farm, where they will enjoy the freedom of the open veld.

The animals will be closely monitored and be given the attention that they have become accustomed to.

Some of the birds that cannot be set free because of hand-rearing have been moved to upgraded facilities across the resort.

The female Blue Crane has been donated to a well-known breeding project to reintroduce into the South African landscapes.

Sun City is working on various projects to increase activities for children and we apologize for any inconvenience caused by the closure of this facility.

Sun International & Minor Hotel Group - update on the transition of services

In 2014, Sun International sold a stake in six of our African operations to the Minor Hotel Group (MHG). Since then, five of the hotels have been rebranded to the AVANI brand. These include the AVANI Victoria Falls Resort, AVANI Gaborone Resort & Casino, AVANI Lesotho Hotel & Casino, AVANI Maseru Hotel, and AVANI Windhoek Hotel & Casino. The Royal Livingstone Resort has not been rebranded, but is now being marketed through Anantara’s distribution channels.

Since taking control of these properties, the MHG team has taken on a growing role in running and managing the operations and is well positioned to continue to grow the portfolio into the future.

As a natural next step in this process, MHG and Sun International have agreed that all marketing, sales, reservations, systems and memberships will be migrated to MHG. MHG is already committed to building a team based in Johannesburg and we are confident that they have the skills and resources to take on these responsibilities.

The property system migration will take place from mid April 2016, starting with the properties in Lesotho and rolling out to the other hotels over a period of approximately six weeks.

This is an exciting next step in the growth and development of the African properties. Thank you to everyone involved in this project, and to all Sun International and MHG employees, as well as our travel partners for your patience and co-operation as we make this change.
