Green Safaris news: Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi

Green Safaris

Because hippo power hides under water!

Dear Green Safaris Friends,

We have decided (although the Zodiac calendar would disagree) that 2022 is officially the year of the hippo.

Why, you ask? Because come rain, come floods, come a little global chaos… the hippo thrives in the water! So rather than wishing the floods away, we are excited to show you how well we swim (or power walk along the bottom, in the case of our hippo metaphor). And we would love for you to join us, and bring your whole pod with you.

Escaping your Zoom screen to "pod" along on a luxury safari… is actually the kindest thing you can do this year!

We've said it before and we'll say it again, tourism in Africa has a sense of global responsibility, of "Ubuntu," that you don't find anywhere else in the world. Over the years, "Ubuntu" has come to mean the spirit of "I am, because we are." In the safari industry, you see this translated into action by companies that give back in a very real way to their communities, wildlife, and environment.

Green Safaris is not the first to take this responsibility seriously, and we are happy to predict that we won't be the last. But let us spoil you on private islands, pour you cocktails by river sunsets, run your bubble bath above snorting hippos, and you'll see that our commitments reach from deep within our walls (sandbag built) all the way to where we source our power (the sun or the Zambezi) and grow our food (largely in our own organic gardens).

Social distancing with herds of elephants is the most Covid conscious way to travel in 2022.

Our properties are only found in hand-picked, isolated, and pristine wild locations in Zambia and Malawi. They are also designed to pay homage to Africa's wide horizons, with immense rooms, private dining spots, outdoor activities, and absolutely no need to see another guest if you don't want to.

Combine this with vaccinated staff, extensive Covid-safety guidelines, and our nearest neighbours being wild animals (who you really ought to distance yourself from anyway), and we've created the perfect places to forget the pandemic without forgetting to stay safe.

But don't take our word for it, the numbers make it very clear that Africa is the place to be... and they have done since the very beginning.

Trusting in Green Safaris is Number 1 on the list of "Best Travel Ideas for 2022."

Ok so we wrote the list… and we’re clearly biased… but we’re also committed to proving to you that we are worth travelling for. So we spent the last year building, upgrading, improving, training, exploring, and in every possible way refining the Dream Green itinerary. We invited feedback from travel experts from around the world and we made changes based on their thoughts. And this year, we're promising to do it all again.

Here are just a few of our upcoming upgrades:

° A brand new pontoon at Ila Safari Lodge so that our Electric Vehicles can cross into areas of the National Park with more wildlife and fewer people.

° Fabulous interior design changes at Chisa Busanga Camp, as well as energy-efficient air-conditioning (based on agent and guest feedback).

° A brand new kitchen and outside dining area for Ndomo House at Kaya Mawa.

° Each room at Shawa Luangwa Camp will be extended with a new drop deck to add outdoor space.

° A beloved wooden dhow at Tongabezi will become electric, ensuring that future picnics on the Zambezi River are not only idyllic but also sunshine-powered.

Plunge into the calm waters of Africa (not literally of course) and enjoy everything that comes with a luxury safari above water.

Did you know? For our International Traveller, we're offering...

See you soon!

All the best,

The Green Team

Bushtracks Africa: 7-Day Family Odyssey

Bushtracks Africa

Travel Updates: 7-Day Family Odyssey to Livingstone and the South Luangwa, Zambia

The UK now recognises more vaccines as Red List bought to zero

The UK's existing list of authorised vaccines for inward travel will be expanded to include Sinovac, Sinopharm Beijing, and Covaxin. Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique, and the Democratic Republic of Congo have also now had their vaccination certificates recognized by the UK.

More vaccinated travellers will be able to fly with fewer restrictions as a result of this. A review of the quality, safety, and efficacy data led to this recognition.

UK Secretary of State for Transport Grant Shapps declared that no countries or territories were currently on the list. "We will keep the red list in place as a precautionary measure to protect public health, and we are prepared to add countries and territories if needed as the UK’s first line of defense if the situation changes." He also said it was a "great boost for travel and all those people employed in the travel sector".

The governments of Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland stated they would follow suit in recognising these vaccines.

All under-18s arriving in England from a non-red list country or territory will be treated as fully vaccinated at the border, regardless of their vaccination status, according to the UK government.

They will not be subjected to self-isolation upon arrival, and will only be required to take a lateral flow test after that, with a free confirmation PCR test if the results are positive.

South Africa: Nomad Tours December News & Updates | Номад Турс Южная Африка

Nomad Tours December News & Updates

The last month of 2021 has arrived and what the past 2 years have taught us is that we as a company and the agents & clients we work with are resilient and stronger than ever. With the recent news that broke, I am sure most of our first instincts are to panic, but history has taught us now to remain calm, assess & wait for clear guidelines.

The recent events has brought some hurdles for the industry, perhaps you have been directly impacted by the rulings and face your own set of challenges. As always Nomad would like to reassure you of our commitment to our agents & travellers.

We will not be indulging in the frenzy that has been created and will work with factual information that is current and accurate released by government. We encourage everyone not make pre mature decisions, to wait and see what unfolds in the coming days and avoid entertaining media opinions that cause panic & stress.

Nomad is open for business, borders are not closed where we travel and travellers are still arriving at our doorstep. The need for travel is more than ever and what a great destination this is to ride out whatever storms are around us.

Once again, we don’t have all the answers – what we do know is:

° South Africans have been banned from international travel to many territories and countries internationally

° South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia’s borders remain open (including other African countries)

° Some airlines continue to travel to Southern Africa, bringing EU citizens amongst others. South African nationals may not depart

° International travel can proceed (depending on nationality) quarantine rules may apply on return

° There is no restriction of movement between provinces and Southern African countries

Our stance on the current situation is that we are physically able to operate our tours, there is no justification for us to halt tour operations and to force mass cancellations.

Our tours will proceed as planned until such time that restrictions call for a) tour deviation or b) cancellation. We would like to remind you that any cancellations received will be subject to standard terms & conditions and cancellations fees may apply so we urge you to discuss all options with your guest prior to cancelling.

As new data emerges in the week coming, we will remain in contact with guests booked on tours set to depart in December and 2022, should any changes occur.

We anticipate in the coming weeks further changes in policies to occur with governments requiring clients to be vaccinated to cross borders. Yesterday Zambia announced they will require all persons to provide evidence of vaccination before entry into government buildings. [Immigration/border control are classified as government buildings]. Also High Risk countries will be required to quarantine. We have not been informed which countries are seen as High Risk. We will communicate to you as soon as we know more.

We are in the process of returning our trips to Victoria Falls due to the recent ruling from Zambia and will be informing our clients & agents once we know more.

The travel community is resilient, and we would like to extend our gratitude to clients and agents who have reached out to us in the past 48 hours voicing their intent to travel and not panicking and doing blanket cancellations. We appreciate your efforts.

Mandatory Vaccine Requirement

The Government of Malawi has on 29th November 2021, introduced new entry requirements for all travellers of all nationalities who wish to gain entry into Malawi. Likewise Zambia has ruled the same as of 30 November 2021. Only fully vaccinated travellers may enter with immediate effect. Due to this change we will as operator be required to enforce this requirement for all passengers joining our tours travelling through this country.

Warm Regards

The Nomad Team.
