New Hideaways Lodge in Zimbabwe: Shashani Matobo Hills Lodge | Шашани Матобо Хиллс Зимбабве

New Hideaways Lodge exists between heaven and earth in Zimbabwe

Being in the business of creating life-changing experiences and making dreams come true, Hideaways is expanding its portfolio to include locations where the veil between heaven and earth is thin. This is Shashani Matobo Hills Lodge, our next addition in our endeavour to offer inspiration in the heart of Africa.

Nestled within a private concession and built on the edge of a giant rock dome, Shashani Matobo Hills encourages one to observe the landscape in all its splendour, from patio to the horizon, and beyond. Matobo holds a magic like none other. Its environment, ambience and lasting impact is unique to its location, found nowhere else in Africa. It's quiet wilderness, steeped in stories and embedded in culture, finds a way to settle onto your skin and steals a special part of your heart.

If one is seeking a location to soothe the soul, Matobo and its surrounds will willingly answer your call. Undulating granite hills, covered in colourful lichen and blanketed in history awaken one’s curiosity, and demands the respect of presence. Explore ancient grain bins from cultures of old, spending time discovering African rock art and archeological remains as well as the feats and expeditions of Cecil John Rhodes.

In the spirit of the inquisitive, follow in the footsteps of a private guide while tracking the elusive rhino, to which the Matobo National Park is home. Witnessing these endangered animals is nothing short of an honour, and part of the vast and significant biodiversity of the park. Sable, zebra, giraffe and wildebeest make up some of the plains game in the area, with a small leopard population who thrive in the rocky habitat. The birdlife lays claim to the highest concentration of breeding pairs of black eagles worldwide, an accolade worthy of mention for these endangered species.

Shashani, Matobo Hills

Matobo holds a magic like none other. Its environment, ambience and lasting impact is unique to its location, found nowhere else in Africa. It’s quiet wilderness, steeped in history and embedded in culture, finds a way to settle onto your skin and steals a special part of your heart.

Built atop a granite kopjie (hill), Shashani Matobo Hills has the honour of gazing out over this remarkable Zimbabwean landscape. Each room offers its own private view, a personal sliver of paradise gifted to you from your chalet.

Explore the more gentle and cultural side of Africa, set amongst giant granite domes, the earth decorated with the footsteps of rhino; a place where the veil between heaven and earth is thin.

Botswana: Mogotlho Safari Lodge reopening | Моготло Сафари Лодж Ботсвана

NEW HIDEAWAYS SAFARI CAMP - MOGOTLHO, KHWAI RIVER

Having endured a year of the unpredictable, a rare absolute has revealed itself for Hideaways; Certainty. We are excited to end 2020 with new possibilities and opportunities, announcing the re-opening of Mogotlho Safari Lodge within the Hideaways collection – creating life-changing (positive) experiences.

A partnership built on the foundations of trust, ethical tourism, conservation initiatives and respect, Hideaways is proud to introduce Mogotlho, Khwai River, as part of our family of safari camps. The lodge has undergone an extensive eco-conscious refurbishment and rebranding, now emanating Hideaways’ vision of creating uniquely positioned safari experiences, while touching the earth lightly.

With luxury safari tents tucked beneath a cathedral of Camelthorn Trees (Mogotlho), the area exudes a tranquility steeped in the wisdom of the wild. Nestled deep in the wild heart of Botswana, on the meandering river of Khwai, Mogotlho is the perfect destination to indulge in both comfort and wildlife. Khwai is a pearl in the centre between Moremi National Park and Chobe Game Reserve, setting the scene for exclusive wildlife encounters in the untamed and enchanted wilderness of Botswana. Being the life-source of the surrounding grasslands, forests, floodplains and lagoons, its riverine habitat attracts a biodiverse ecosystem – a year round invitation to nature.

Set in the heart of a 50 000-ha private concession, guests can expect exceptional, uninterrupted and scenic opportunities to not only observe a healthy and abundant ecological community, including many predators, but also learn more about human-wildlife co-existence today with the Mababe village nearby.

The combination of wildlife, community and conservation initiatives, and eco-lodge ideals, we end this year with anticipated excitement in sharing this unique piece of Africa.
