Elephant Collaring
Four groups, of up to eight guests each, have the opportunity to participate in the reserve’s elephant conservation project. Guests will witness an elephant darting and assist in the changing of a radio collar. Four of the elephant collars utilised in Phinda’s research programme are in need of replacing and guests are being invited to participate in this extraordinary experience.
Turtle Nesting Season
It is nesting season for the enormous leatherback and loggerhead turtles, which emerge from the Indian Ocean at Sodwana Bay to lay their eggs. Guests have the opportunity to embark on an evening adventure along the beach in search of these turtles as they come ashore to dig their nests.
Endangered Wild Cats Project
This guided tour takes guests to a local breeding centre for South Africa’s endangered wild cat species. The aim of the rehabilitation centre is to breed and reintegrate wild cheetah, serval, caracal and African wild cat back into their natural habitat. Guests are escorted through the individual animal enclosures, where they can view and photograph these wild felines up close.
Horse Riding in False Bay
Guests have the opportunity to explore False Bay on a scenic two-hour horseback ride, where they will discover the various habitats of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This adventure is suitable for beginners, novices and experts. The horses have been well schooled to adapt to the level of their riders.
