Zimbabwe: Zimbabwean dollar the sole currency

ZIMBABWE BANS ALL FOREX

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has made the Zimbabwean dollar the sole currency for legal tender purposes  Coming into effect today, the British pound, United States dollar, South African Rand, Botswana Pula and any other foreign currency whatsoever shall no longer be a legal tender alongside the Zimbabwean dollar in any transactions in Zimbabwe.  This ends the multiple currency regime that Zimbabwe has been using.

It has been confirmed that clients will have to exchange their Forex for Zimbabwe dollar to buy food in restaurants and retail outlets (groceries, bottled water etc.) since Zimbabwe dollar will be the only legal tender. You cannot change / pay in forex at restaurants any longer.

When paying for an tourism activity in Zimbabwe however, operators are still accepting Forex without any issues for tours and transfers – ZAR, BWP, Pounds, USD.

Clients are advised to plan well for their expenses in Victoria Falls and only change a small amount of forex for meals etc if necessary, as Bureaus and banks have limited trading hours over weekends which means that you may not be able to buy or sell Zimbabwe Dollars over the weekend.
