Namibia: The Otjozondjupa Regional Governor, Samuel Nuuyoma condemns lazy public servants

The Otjozondjupa Regional Governor on Friday lashed out at lazy public servants in his region, saying they are failing government in its efforts to bring services to the people.
Samuel Nuuyoma made the statement during his New Year’s address to Otjozondjupa regional heads of government ministries at the NamCol Conference Centre in Otjiwarongo.

Several chief executive officers (CEO) and mayors of Okahandja, Grootfontein, Okakarara, Otavi and Otjiwarongo were attended.

“Laziness and non-commitment to your duties should not be the order of the day,” he said.

The governor then urged heads of government ministries to go back to their offices, and coach other public servants to work as a team in delivering services to the people.

Nuuyoma said each ministry in his region should deliver on its mandate and contribute to the development of the whole region.

He said the Otjozondjupa Region should be free from hunger, crime, poverty, disease, drug abuse and unemployment, because most government ministries are represented in this region.

“In order to achieve the mission and vision of your ministry, you should strengthen the teamwork and aim for one common goal. Let us be servants of our people not their bosses,” he stressed.

He then introduced two floating trophies to be awarded to the best-performing local authority and/or government ministry in the region for exceptional services delivered to the general public.

Nuuyoma singled out the Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Otjozondjupa Regional Police Commander, Commissioner Joseph Anghuwo, whom he said worked hard in 2013.

The governor said Anghuwo put up strategies, which led to a reduction in stock theft cases in Otjozondjupa.

The region’s education director, Faustina Caley, was also praised for improving the region’s Grade 12 Ordinary and Higher Level examination results in 2013.
