Experience Namibia – with Gondwana History VI
Gondwana History VI

Gondwana Geskiedenis VI

60 years ago a first group of Brahman cattle from Texas arrived in Namibia after an eventful voyage and conquered local beef production in an unequalled manner. Alexander Schottland, a Private in the German colonial forces, turned out to be a British spy. And a handsome Great Dane was enlisted into the Royal Navy as an Able Seaman.

Become acquainted with Namibia and its people. Read the sixth edition of “Gondwana History – Memorable Moments from Namibia’s Past” fresh from the printers.

Gondwana History VI is a colourful mix of stories: amusing, entertaining, some of them peculiar and others of a rather serious nature. 2014 was the centenary of the start of the First World War. Several short features deal with the war years in Namibia.

Other contributions are dedicated to formidable personalities such as the legendary Nama leader, Hendrik Witbooi, who with his journals left a cultural heritage to Namibia that is now inscribed into the UNESCO ‘Memory of the World’. Or artist John Muafangejo, whose legacy includes an art school for aspiring artists from a background of poverty.

“With the Gondwana History series and the many other publications of the past years we made a valuable contribution towards preserving Namibia’s natural and historical heritage and passing it on to as many people as possible”, says Mannfred Goldbeck, the Managing Director of Gondwana Collection Namibia and initiator of the Gondwana History series. “We will continue to do so, but right now it is time for us to turn our attention to other projects. This is the last book in the Gondwana History series, and it provides a unique opportunity to extend the most sincere thanks to everybody involved.”

Gondwana History VI is now available at the Gondwana offices in Klein Windhoek (42 Nelson Mandela Ave, access from Dr Kwame Nkrumah St) as well as at the lodges and in the bookshops.
