Strand Hotel Swakopmund
opens to general public on September 4, 2015

The new Strand Hotel Swakopmund and its Restaurants, Lounges and Bars under construction since November 2013 will finally open its doors on September 4, 2015 to the public.

The building is being handed over to O&L Leisure Hotels & Lodges in 3 segments, commencing on the 15th of June 2015 and ending on the 3rd of August 2015 with the third segment.

This will allow O&L Leisure Hotels & Lodges and the appointed Strand Hotel Swakopmund executives to begin rolling out a detailed training program, beginning in July 2015 wich will include three soft opening exercises involving invited individuals and groups who will test the hotel and restaurants. These individuals and groups are fondly known as “Guinea Pigs”. This training is scheduled to be completed throughout the month of August and will focus on 100% of the team employed at the Strand Hotel Swakopmund as of 1st of August 2015.

This will lead the project up to its official opening to the general public on
Friday, September 4, 2015.

Previous announcements confirmed that the Strand Hotel Swakopmund will open to the general public during August 2015. The slight delay has been caused by the metal workers strike in South Africa during which some 24 days of productivity was lost. Many initiatives were undertaken to manage this delay and we are happy to announce that we were able to catch up on some 50% of the lost days and feel it is our responsibility to now announce an opening on September 4, 2015.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Why does Strand Hotel Swakopmund not open in August?
The delay was caused by the Metal Workers strike in RSA. We will open the Hotel for our soft openings and training sessions on the 1st of August. However, we believe it is not correct to make paying customers part of the training sessions during our soft opening.

What has caused the delay of the opening?
In our entire building program we had a 44 days cushion for unforeseen circumstances. Due to the Metal Workers strike in South Africa we could not get the ordered material in time and thus the entire building program needed to be revised. We have added more resources and due to the reorganization we won back many days of the overall delay but were unable to get all 44 days back.

Would it be possible that the opening is further delayed, beyond September 4?
In the building industry there are always such possibilities. The current construction program should meet the revised completion schedule unless there are further major unforeseen circumstances.

Why can’t you host guests as part of the soft opening phases?

We believe it is not fair to host paying customers as part of our staff training sessions and are not able to provide those customers with the expected guest experience and service excellence they have paid for.
