A comfortable 5 hour drive from Windhoek, you will find the stunning landscapes of Damaraland. Mowani Mountain Camp and Camp Kipwe are dwarfed by massive ochre boulders, and blend into the landscape.
Mowani offers 7 Superior rooms with valley views, 6 Superior View rooms with hill top vistas, 2 Luxury suites & 7 Campsites with private ablution facilities.
Activities offered include Elephant / Nature Drive (+- 4 to 6 hours in the morning), Twyfelfontein, Burnt Mountain and Organ Pipes Excursion (+- 2 hours in the afternoon) and Guided walks (+- 1,5 to 2 hours in the morning) where you can experience the sights, smells and sounds of the African bush on foot. You may be lucky enough to see Springbok and Kudu as well as some interesting bird life including various raptors and the ever-present Rock Hyrax. Guided walks need to be booked on arrival at the Lodges and are subject to guide availability. Self guided walks around the lodge's marked trail are available for guests at their leisure.
We have a resident Leopard at Mowani now, who lives in the rocks near the watering hole. She has attempted quite a few stalks on the Springbok drinking at the hole but has only been successful once in the past month.
Camp Kipwe is nestled in the boulders, facing out onto superb scenery. Incorporating boulders, small red basalt rocks and mopane branches, it has a natural organic feel. The 9 rooms + 1 suite are round in shape, with large outside decks to admire the view. The outside, partially open bathrooms adjoining the bedrooms have boulder, cement and rock walls, and roofs of rough mopane branches. Hot water is supplied by wood-burning 'donkey' boilers.
Activities offered include Elephant / Nature Drive (+- 4 to 6 hours in the morning) and Twyfelfontein, Burnt Mountain and Organ Pipes Excursion (+- 2 hours in the afternoon).
